William Renzulli has successfully woven art and medicine into the
fabric of his life. Upon completion of his medical training in 1971, he
established an internal medicine practice in Wilmington, Delaware. It
was during this time that his life long interest in art matured into a
call that could not be ignored. In 1981, after nine years of practice,
he traded his black bag for a canvas bag, and vigorously pursued a
career in art. Untill his complete retirement from medicine in 2002,
Renzulli divided his time equally between medicine and art.
With a focus primarily on architecture, his watercolors and drawings
depict the built environment, townscapes, and urban landscapes.
Renzulli's paintings have been exhibited in numerous solo and juried
shows in galleries in the mid-atlantic states, and his limited edition
prints are distributed nation wide. In addition, he has been
commissioned to create both commemorative prints and original work for a
number of institutions, schools, and businesses. During this time
period, he worked exclusively in
watercolors, developing a unique style that made his work immediately
recognizable as a "Renzulli".
Blessed (or cursed) with a restless spirit, Renzulli once again began to
feel the tugging of medicine in his heart, and in 1993 he returned to
the full time practice of medicine. By putting the office on his farm,
in the same barn with his studio, he hoped that he might achieve the
balance in his life that had remained so elusive all these years. As
it turned out, the next three years were dominated by medicine,
demanding all of his time
and energy, and his artistic enthusiasm and output came to an almost
complete halt. Then, just as he was about to delivery a eulogy to the
departed artist, Renzulli tried his hand at clay mono printing, a
process developed by his artist friend, Mitch Lyons, and in a moment,
the artist was reborn. Since 1996 Renzulli has been exploring this new
medium. Utilizing liquid clay, pigments, pastels, and fabric, his new
images are bold,
colorful, and far removed from his earlier work.
Fast forward to 2002, and once more change is the order of the day.
Leaving medicine completely, Renzulli moved to join a growing community
of artists in Paducah Kentucky, where for the first time he could devote
all of his time and energy to his art. There he achieved a long
standing dream by opening his own gallery and re-established his studio
where he has been working in all three mediums, pastel, watercolor, and
clay.
